Berlin is the capital of one of the largest and most influential countries in European Union. Quantity of inhabitants and the total area of this city are largest in the country. Comparing with other cities of the European Union it’s ranked second for the number of residents, after the capital of England, and the fifth for the territory.

From the west and south-east Berlin is surrounded by extensive forest belts. Almost every street of Berlin is graced by greenery. People believe that this is the most greened city in the country. There are more than 2500 parks and gardens for relaxation in Berlin. The largest and oldest of them is central Tiergarten park. It has been built more than 500 years ago. Locals and visitors like to spend their free time here.

Other places of interest in this capital include the Berlin Victory Column; its height is 69 meters. Column was built in 1864-1873. The main idea was to elevate a pedestal for the 8-meters goddess Victory that is situated in 285 steps, symbolizing the long and difficult, but inevitable path to victory.

Berlin Botanical Garden is another place that every tourist should definitely visit. It is located in the south-western part of the city. In the Garden one can find a wide variety of flora that has been brought here from all over the world. Garden is widely popular among Berliners as a great place for casual recreation and solace for strained nerves.

There are two oldest zoos in the city; one of these zoos opened its doors to visitors at 1844. The total number of present in the zoo examples of fauna from a few hundred in the XIX century increased to 1500 kinds and 14,000 animals today.

Berlin also isn’t the last city in fashion world. It’s one of the centers that create international fashion. At your first meeting with the city you can get an impression that its residents don’t know such word as “fashion”. But at fact there chic isn’t exposed parading like in Milan or Paris. However, Berlin becomes a place for up of young and talented designers, and by shocking podium shows this city would eclipse all the others put together.

Beauty of Berlin is supplemented with moderately warm climate with little rainfalls and long sunny days. The average temperature in the city is about +9,2° C. The hottest months in Berlin are June, July and August, and the coldest are December, January and February.

Population of German capital is varied, consists of dozens of races and nationalities. According to recent data the number of residents doesn’t exceed a rate of 3.5 million people. Fertility in city is low, and growth of population is minimal. According to experts, structure and number of residents haven’t significantly changed for the several decades.

Quantity of women in Berlin is slightly more than men, but even so, 50% of Berliners live without family. The reason for this state of things goes from such German mentality and way of life.
